ABOUT AMY

My name is Amy and I am so glad you are here. I am a mentor, writer, and podcast host. My writing encompasses topics such as adoption, special needs parenting, and the spiritual life. With three decades of parenting experience, two decades of special needs parenting experience, and an MA in Spiritual Formation from Friends University, I am able to share a perspective of understanding and empathy.
I write honestly about our adoption story, parenting children with Reactive Attachment Disorder (RAD) and Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD). I offer mentoring for special needs parents or moms suffering from burnout and exhaustion — helping special needs moms craft a beautiful rhythm so they can thrive and not just survive.
My goal is to help create a safe and supportive space for you, providing guidance and insights to help you on your journey. Learn more about my personal experiences, education, and mentorship below to see if we are a good fit.

Published Author
Ever since I was a little girl, I dreamed of writing a book. I had no idea it would be about parenting children with special needs, and I didn’t know I would be writing it with two dear friends and fellow special needs moms. In our book, The Other Side of Special, my co-authors Sara Clime and Carrie Holt and myself bring a deep understanding of the challenges and triumphs that come with raising children who face unique obstacles. We offer hope and understanding to those who feel isolated in their struggles, fostering a sense of connection and support within the special needs community.
Workshop Leader and Retreat Speaker
In addition to writing, I specialize in educating and inspiring caregivers in the field of special needs childcare. My years as a mother of children with physical, medical, mental, and emotional special needs has equipped me with the insights and understanding of the challenges and triumphs necessary to understand and help parents on this journey.
When I speak at your retreat or lead your small group, I can provide parents and caregivers with practical strategies, emotional support, and spiritual practices to help them thrive. My goal is to empower those who work with children with special needs on a personal level, addressing both the technical aspects of care and the emotional resilience required to navigate this demanding journey.
Mentorship
More than anything, I want you to know that you are not alone on this path. I use an engaging and empathetic approach to mentorship that fosters a supportive environment. Here, parents and caregivers can gain new perspectives, learn effective techniques, and find solace in knowing they are part of a broader, compassionate community. This one-on-one work is dedicated to enhancing the quality of care and support for children with special needs, ensuring that caregivers are well-equipped to make a meaningful impact in their lives.
